Newtown is a scenic small town with a number of local historic landmarks. Two of the most famous are the town′s flagpole, erected in 1876, and the Newtown Meeting House, which survived the French Army′s targeting in 1781. Newtown is also known for the Fairfield Hills Hospital, the location for the 1995 movie ″Sleepers″.

Newtown has a population over 25,000 and covers an area of 60 square miles. Originally known as Quanneapague, Newtown was purchased from the Pohtatuck Indians in 1705.

The town has many community programs for both visitors and residents. There are numerous parks and sports fields offering a nature center, hiking trails, playgrounds, swimming pools, tennis courts, lacrosse, baseball, softball, soccer, and volleyball.
